The Polite Packaging Award prizes packaging solutions which are broadly characterized as polite:

Polite to the consumer
e.g. easy to open, convieniently resealable, to carry, clear and comprehensible information on the packaging. In short : every quality that makes the handling of the packaging a pleasurable experience.

Polite to the environment
e.g. use of renewable raw materials, good to recycle, low use of raw materials, easy to dispose of. Packages which make the environment happy.

Polite to the contents
e.g. perfect protection/conservation of the contents during transport and storage, the possibility to fully and easily extract the contents. In short : packaging which respects its contents. This especially applies to comestible goods. It also applies to other contents, because every packaged item consist of raw materials, which should not be thrown away unused.

The challenge of the participating packages lies in scoring points in each of the three dimensions where possible. The evaluation includes the following weigthings of the dimensions:

Polite to the consumer: 2
Polite to the environment: 1
Polite to the contents: 1

The prize winner will be awarded title „Polite Packaging 2020

You can submit packaging and functional prototypes for every product with which consumers have anything to do on a daily basis: consumer goods, medicinal products, consumables.

Please send us at least three originals of the packaging and explain where the special characteristics of the packaging lie. Additionally you may send older versions of the packaging to demonstrate the realized improvements.

The participation in the SilverPack Award does not involve costs.

A return of the submited packages is not possible. There is no legal recourse.

The contest is an initiative by the Meyer-Hentschel Institute, Zurich/ Saarbrücken.

The Meyer-Hentschel Institute deals with megatrends in consumer behaviour and advises companies on the successful adaptation of products and packaging to these trends.
